ABSTRACT
Academic integrity in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a serious concern in higher education. This study explores the challenges of maintaining integrity, critically analyzes existing policies at American, European, and South Asian universities, their limitations, and proposes a process-based framework for maintaining integrity in the use of AI. The article critically reviews the policies of selected universities, publishing houses, and journals, as well as relevant literature, to develop a conceptual framework on AI-related academic integrity. The study finds that existing policies and protocols emphasize plagiarism detection, AI-generated text detection, and product detection, overlooking AI use in the process. This article also highlights challenges like insufficient disclosure, blurred authorship, lack of AI literacy, fabricated information and citations, cognitive offloading, and limited accountability in academic research writing. To address these limitations in existing literature, the study proposes an AI-related academic writing integrity framework.
